How pigeon nets work
A pigeon net is a physical barrier stretched across an open balcony, window, duct or terrace. Pigeons cannot pass through the mesh, so they stop landing, nesting and leaving droppings inside — without any harm to the birds.
The three parts that do the work
- Mesh — the net opening is small enough that pigeons cannot squeeze through, but large enough to keep your view and airflow.
- Fixings — hooks, anchors or frames fixed into the wall or railing hold the net at every edge, so birds cannot slip in at the corners.
- Tension — the net is pulled tight so it does not sag; a sagging net gives pigeons a perch and wears out faster.
What a pigeon net does not do
Pigeon-exclusion netting is not a person-supporting fall-protection system. Never climb, sit or put body weight on netting, and keep children away from a damaged opening. For child and pet safety, ask about purpose-built balcony safety nets instead.
